Kenneth W. Anderson
July 17, 1934 - September 10, 2019
Kenneth W. Anderson, age 85 of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Sanford Hospice Centennial Cottage in Sioux Falls. Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Grace Lutheran Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM, also at Grace Lutheran Church.
Kenneth Wayne Anderson was born on Tuesday, July 17, 1934 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Harry and Louise (Finck) Anderson. He attended school in Fort Dodge, IA and went to Jr College playing basketball and was recruited by Milt Harvey to play basketball for Augustana College in Sioux Falls. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree for teaching at Augustana and later went to the University of South Dakota where he earned his Masters Degree. He married Pearl Sumption on September 8, 1956 in Marshall, MN and to this union four children were born, Scott, Pam, Kevin, and Kurt. Kenn began student teaching at Edison Junior High School which he retired from after 39 years of teaching. He taught math for over 39 years, coached and was also the Athletic Coordinator.
Kenn valued Christ, family, and friends; he prayed for them and valued their education. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church and was involved in the Boy Scouts with his two sons and grandson achieving Eagle Scouts. He enjoyed following sports, Iowa Hawkeyes and Cleveland Indians and also volunteered at the Dakota Relays. He was always a sports fan, but never so much as when his princess Pam became a sports fan. Kenn and Pearl spent 63 years of marriage together and he will be missed by all those who knew him.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Pearl Anderson of Sioux Falls; their children, Pam Stegman and her husband, Erik of Minneapolis, MN; Kurt Anderson and his wife, Jody of Murfreeseboro, TN; daughter-in-law, Cindy Hackett of Canton; five grandchildren, Sonja Baudry and her husband, Marc, Natalie Stegman, Ethan Anderson, Taye Anderson, Elle Anderson; and a host of many other relatives and friends.
Kenn was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Scott; son, Kevin Anderson; brothers, Keith and Glenn Anderson; sister, Waneta Hedberg.
