Gerry Anderson
July 12, 1960 - April 16, 2021

Gerry Anderson, 60, passed away Friday, April 16, 2021 following a courageous fight with cancer. The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 23, 2021 at East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Burial will follow at Hills of Rest Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4-7 PM on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at George Boom funeral home. Masks and social distancing will be observed. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Tammy and the boys for the Gerry Anderson Tree Memorial, which will be set up to bless the community with the beauty of trees.

Gerry was born to Merrill and Joyce Anderson in Sioux Falls on July 12, 1960. He was one of nine children. He graduated from Brandon Valley High School in 1978 and then attended Southeast Area Vo-Tech studying Landscape Design. In 1980 he started Anderson Landscaping with his dad, a business that continues to flourish. He married Tammy Twedt on March 15, 1986 at East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Tammy was the love of his life, best friend, and forever his favorite nurse. He enjoyed being a dad to his two sons, Jeremy and Jordan, coaching their numerous sports teams and watching them excel in their lives. Gerry was overjoyed to see his sons find their beautiful wives, Cierra and Jenna. He’d always say, “We finally got our daughters, Tam.”

Gerry was a “big picture” man prioritizing the important things in life. He was the embodiment of an optimist and his glass was always overflowing. His sense of humor was contagious and he was the most compassionate, loving (he never had an enemy), giving, and humble man. Everyone who knew Gerry could see God and his love for the Lord in his every action. Every year, he was determined to bring the joy of Christmas and the love of the Lord to those in need through Sioux Falls Cares. Gerry was always a kid at heart and found joy in so many things. Bringing family together and maintaining yearly traditions was so important to him. He LOVED the 4th of July and blessed the neighborhood with awesome fireworks displays. Family vacations, attending concerts, and cheering on the Packers were some of the highlights of his life. Gerry and his brothers bonded by roaring into Sturgis on their Harleys and he always looked forward to his annual Canadian fishing trip with Team Walleye: “Fish On!” Gerry instilled his love of golf in his sons, Jeremy and Jordan. He loved playing golf, following the golf games of his sons, and attending professional golf events. Gerry’s love for the outdoors and creating beautiful spaces was evident throughout his life. He was instrumental in creating Mystic Meadows and Mystic Creek developments located in Eastern Sioux Falls. He was also very proud to have served over 20 years on the Minnehaha Community Water Board. Driving around Sioux Falls, you can see Gerry’s creativity and love for nature in every Anderson Landscaping project. Gerry never hesitated to donate his talents and resources to the community, like providing landscaping for East Side Lutheran Church. He would love to know his giving spirit will be carried on through the Gerry Anderson Tree Memorial.

Survivors include his wife, Tammy; sons, Jeremy (Cierra) Anderson, Sioux Falls, Jordan (Jenna) Anderson, Maple Grove, MN; eight siblings, Pam Kolseth, Sioux Falls, Tim (Diana), Ft. Collins, CO, Dan (Vicky), Sioux Falls, Lori (Ron) Royer, Grapevine, TX, Lynne (Jack) Stack, Sioux Falls, twin brother Gene (Kelly), Jacksonville, FL, Keith (Linda), Sioux Falls, Joe (Colleen), Sioux Falls; many nieces and nephews as well as his treasured in-laws, Arlin and Betty (Hoefert) Twedt, Sioux Falls.
