Death of Another Aged Pioneer of Community
Hartvig P. Anderson Passed to His Reward Thanksgiving Day; Was Almost 82 Years Old
Hartvig P. Anderson was born in Fredlofter, Denmark, Feb 10, 1846, and passed to his reward at the Dell Rapids Hospital on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, a the age of 81 years, 9 months, 14 days.
He was baptized and confirmed in Norlebo Church in Denmark and had since joined the St. Olaf Church of Baltic.
On January 22, 1871, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Christine Jensen. To this union were born eight children: Andrew of Spokane, Wash., James of Brooking, Hans of Flandreau, Mrs. Andrew Nelson of Baltic, Mrs. Sophie Larson of Turton, Mrs. J. M. Jensen of Sioux Falls, and Mrs. Anton Jensen of Egan. One son having passed away in infancy.
Mr. and Mrs. Anderson with their family came to Dell Rapids on May 20, 1888, later moving to a farm in Moody County, where they lived a number of years.
In 1906 they moved to Baltic where they have since made their home with their daughter, Mrs. A. Nelson.
The wife and mother passed away four years ago.
Besides his immediate family he is mourned by 26 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, also a brother, Carl Anderson of Denmark, a niece, Marie Anderson of Colman, and a nephew Nels P. Anderson of Dell Rapids, besides a host of friends.
Grandpa Anderson was loved by all who knew him, and his loving smile will not soon be forgotten.
Funeral services were held at the Nelson home Sunday, November 27th, at 3 o'clock, and from the St. Olaf church at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Solum officiating.
Interment was made at the St. Olaf Cemetery.
