Alan C. Anderson
August 6, 1954 - August 7, 2022
Alan Anderson passed away peacefully on August 7, 2022, in his home with family by his side after a brief battle with cancer. He was 68.
Alan Carol Anderson was born on August 6, 1954, in Hawarden, IA to Oscar and Ethel (Fickbohm) Anderson. He attended Dodd Country School and graduated from Alcester High School in 1972. Soon after graduating, he began his 37 year career at Stan Houston Equipment in Sioux Falls, SD.
In 1976, Al was involved in a life changing tractor accident that left him confined to the hospital for three months. While in the hospital, he met and fell in love with his nurse, Karen Boterhoek, and on April 8, 1978, they were united in marriage in Hospers, IA. Residing in Sioux Falls, the couple purchased their first home and soon became parents to their three children. While Al continued working for Stan Houston Equipment, he obtained degrees from Southeast Technical College and Colorado Technical University. After 22 years with the company he was promoted to service manager and later to network administrator. Due to health complications, Al was forced to retire in 2010.
Al was a talented woodworker, avid photographer and the go-to computer repair technician for many friends and family members. Those close to him know that with the right tools, Al could build or fix anything. In his free time, he enjoyed archery, hunting, fishing, watching Minnesota Twins baseball, building remote controlled airplanes and model rockets, and spending time with his family. Through his mother, Ethel, Al developed a skill for cooking and a passion for bird watching.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Karen; daughters, Laura (Trevor) Soyk of Colorado Springs, CO, Audra Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD; son, Chris (Kate) Anderson of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Noah, Anderson, Zoe, August and Arlo; sisters, Lillian Fox of Sioux Falls, SD, Lucile Sandven of Hill City, SD; brother, Orlin (JoAnne) Anderson of Alexandria, MN; sister-in-law, Barbara Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Loren Anderson; brothers-in-law, Daniel Fox and Daniel Sandven; sisters-in-law, Bonny Anderson and Karen Anderson; and beloved pet, Dutchess.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 am on Friday, August 12, 2022, at Miller Southside Chapel, 7400 South Minnesota Avenue. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 11, also at Miller Southside Chapel.
