Joan Ellen Anderson
October 17, 1946 - January 15, 2024
Joan Ellen Anderson was born on October 17, 1946, in Sioux Falls, to Edwin and Renee Anderson.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 10 AM at First Lutheran Church, 327 S. Dakota Ave. Interment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the church before going to the cemetery.
Joan graduated from Washington High School and later attended South Dakota State University. She then worked at Sioux Valley Hospital before moving to Minneapolis, where she was employed by the ConAgra Corporation. To supplement her income, she worked part-time for Best Products. When her mother lost her vision, she returned to Sioux Falls to care for her while working for CNA Surety. She also worked part-time at Coldwater Creek. After she retired, she continued to call Sioux Falls her home. On weekends, Joan volunteered at the customer service desk at the Washington Pavilion.
Joan was an amazing aunt who entertained her nieces and nephews from the time they were babies and remembered them on every occasion. Her nieces and nephews are Debra (Mike) Stade, Renee (Michael) McFarland, Ron (Sara) Anderson, Brian (Michelle) Gregory, David (Liz) Gregory, Angela (Chip) Mikonis, Christine (Lee) Retterer, and Sally (Dean) Sheley. She also had 16 great-nieces and nephews and two great-great-nephews, who all received the same attention. She never missed an opportunity to call loved ones on their birthdays and sing them "Happy Birthday." Joan had a wonderful sense of humor and a fun-loving spirit. She enjoyed traveling, working in her yard, and spending time with her wide circle of friends and cousins.
Joan was a member of First Lutheran Church. Sadly, after a brief illness, she passed away on January 15, 2024, and joined her parents, her brother, David Anderson, her sister, Nancy Gregory, and her brothers-in-law, Del Steinle and Dick Gregory. She is survived by her sister, Susan Steinle, many cousins, her nieces and nephews, and their children. Her loved ones will deeply miss her.
