Shirley was born September 6, 1917, at Garretson, SD, to Henry and Ida Rothenbuehler Rudd. She attended school at Garretson and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson. Shirley married Bert D. Bennett at Rock Rapids, Iowa, April 4, 1936. They started farming near Flandreau, SD, in 1943 and in 1948 they moved to a farm 3 miles south of Flandreau. She worked at the Flandreau Furniture Store from 1965 until the late 70's. They moved into Flandreau in the fall of 1977. Her husband preceded her in death March 11, 1996. Shirley was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, W.E.L.C.A., and Town and County Club. She was a former member of Square Deal Club and Eastern Star.

Shirley is survived by one daughter, Joan Scofield and her husband, Kent, Flandreau; two sons, Richard and his wife, Beverly, Schuyler, NE; Daniel and his wife, Dorine, Madison, SD; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert; two granddaughters, her parents and one sister.
