Florence M. Bennett
(December 1, 1915 - March 24, 2009)
Florence M. Bennett, 93, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at United Retirement Center, Brookings. Florence was born December 1, 1915 in Lincoln County, SD to Frank and Mary (Guenthner) Krull. She went to school in Hawarden, IA and then received her teaching certificate and taught in rural country schools. Then she worked for the phone company and at Schriver's Department Store in Sioux Falls as a floor manager. Florence married Robert Bennett, Jr. on February 18, 1960 in Sioux Falls. They lived on a farm five miles east of Flandreau until 1984 when they moved into Flandreau. Her husband preceded her in death on July 22, 1993. Mary continued to live in Flandreau and then moved into Greenleaf Assisted Living in Flandreau. Then she lived at StoneyBrook Suites in Brookings until December of 2008 when she became a resident at URC. Florence was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, WELCA and was a Bible study leader.
Florence is survived by a daughter, Mary (Dean) Duncan, Rapid City, a son, Daryl (Sheila) Bennett, Brookings; 3 grandsons, Jared, Jesse and Justin; a sister, Olene Degen, Hartford and a brother, Leo (Hilda) Langley of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, an infant son and her parents.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Flandreau with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation begins at 4:00 pm Thursday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 7:00 pm prayer service with the family present from 4 – 7 pm.
