Robert Leslie Bennett, son of William and Junia Bennett, was born in Moody County on August 5, 1892. He received his schooling in the rural Moody County schools and graduated from Flandreau high school in 1911. He was united in marriage to Ruth Babcock in 1913. She died in March 1932. He married Viola Bowen on August 24, 1940. He farmed south of Flandreau most of his life until 1948 when he retired from farming and moved into Flandreau. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Modern Woodman for many years and served on the Egan School board for several years.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Evelyn) Chamberlin, Rogers, Arkansas, Mrs. Donna Malone, Marshall, MN; four sons, Harley, Bert and Robert , all of Flandreau and William, Elkton; one sister, Mrs. Emma Babcock, Flandreau; one brother, Jay, Flandreau; 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
