Harm Albers was born at Allison, IA on Nov. 6, 1908, the son of Johann and Trientje (Johnson) Albers. In 1915 he moved with his parents to a farm near Chancellor when he was 12 years old and in 1918 they moved to a farm on the northwest edge of Lennox. He attended grade school during the winter months and helped his parents on the farm during the spring and fall seasons.
On Feb. 12, 1931 he was united in marriage to Lena Stoffers at LaValley Presbyterian Church, rural Lennox. Following their marriage they farmed in the Lennox locality. They also farmed near Canton before moving to Lennox in 1950. Harm was employed at Gambles in Lennox for eight years and managed VerBeek Hardware in Parker, SD for three years. He was a custodian for the Lennox School District for 30 years until his retirement. His wife preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 1979. He continued to live in Lennox until March 11, 1996 when he became a resident of the Good Samaritan village in Sioux Falls, SD. Besides his parents and his wife, Lena, he was preceded in death by his two sons-in-law: Pete Nordman on Aug. 17, 1966 and Peter Vanderwerf on Sep. 20, 1971; one granddaughter, Grace Albers on Apr. 14, 1993; one great-granddaughter, Heidi Albers; seven brothers: Albert, at one year of age, Minert, Louie, Cornelius, Albert, Sr., Henry and John Albers; five sisters: Hattie, at three months of age, Mattie Roerig, Minnie Schmidt, Marie Beninga and Hattie Schmidt. Grateful for having shared his life are his two sons and their wives: Delmar and Rosella Albers of Flandreau and Harley and Doris Albers of Brandon; his two daughters: Marlys Vanderwerf and Betty Nordman, both of Lennox; 11 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Tena DeBoer, of Sioux Falls.
