Herman Albers was born in Lennox on Mar. 6, 1929, the son of John M.F. and Henrietta (Engelkes) Albers. He attended school and grew up in Lennox. He worked on the railroad for a short time with his father and then joined the US Air Force and served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a career man in the Air Force, serving in England, Arizona, Germany, Casabalanka, French Morocco, Oregon and then in Colorado Springs, CO for 28 years. Herman was married to Dorothy E. Oakes in England and she moved with him during his military career. One daughter, Averil, was born to this union. His wife preceded him in death in June of 1974. In 1992 he and Averil moved to Worthing, SD and then moved to Lennox in 1996. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his daughter, Averil on Oct. 5, 2001; his father, John on Jul. 30, 1984; his mother, Henrietta (Jettie) on Mar. 2, 2003; two sisters: Lena in infancy and Louise in 1965; three brothers: John (Corky) in 1960, Henry J. (Hank) in 1992 and Ernest in 1996. Grateful for having shared his life are three brothers: Marion Albers of Sioux Falls, Pete Albers and his wife, Sharon, of Lennox and Gary Albers of Lennox; one sister, Jeanette Graves and her husband, Don, of Harrisburg, SD.
