Royal “Hoot” Berg
Dell Rapids – Royal “Hoot” Berg, 83, Dell Rapids, formerly of Baltic, died August 27th at the Dells Area Nursing Home after a prolonged illness.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 29 at Willow Creek Lutheran Church, rural Dell Rapids. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.
Royal “Hoot” Berg was born Jan 4, 1919. He married Grace Bly June 7, 1940. They farmed for 24 years before entering the electrical plumbing – heating business. He purchased the Baltic Hardware in 1963, and renamed it Berg Electric.
Hoot was a lifelong member of the Willow Creek Lutheran Church where he held several offices including President. Hoot has served on the board of directors of the Baltic Volunteer Fire Department, Baltic /Garretson Co-Op Creamery Co., Sioux Valley Electric Association, East Dakota Conservancy Subdistrict and the Baltic Co-Op Telephone Company.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Berg; daughter Shirley (Larry0 Nelson, Spencer, IA; sons, Kenneth (Becky) Berg, Louisburg, KS; Arlyn (Jan) Berg, Rapids City, SD; Doug (Lori) Berg, Baltic, SD; 21 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and a sister, Althea Moan, Baltic.
Family requests memorial in lieu of flowers.
