Old Settler Passed Away Last Friday
Ole Berge Died at His Home in Dell Rapids; Had Lived in County More Than 40 Years
Ole Berge died at his home in Dell Rapids Friday morning, January 7, 1927, after an illness of abut two weeks, aged 73 years, 4 months, and 29 days.
Ole Berge was born in Lavik parish, Sogn, Norway, August 8, 1853. His parents were Berge and Syneva Berge. He left Norway in 1884 coming to Dell Rapids, S.D.
June 1st, 1888, he was united in marriage to Guri A. Pederson of Grant County, Wisconsin. To this union four children born, Bennie, Emma, Selma and Oscar. Emma passed away n 1903 at the age of 11 years.
In 1889 they bought a farm in Logan Township, where they resided until last June, when they moved to Dell Rapids. Bennie and Oscar reside on the home farm, in Logan Township, and Selma Rieder at Ramona, S.D.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, three children, one adopted daughter, Gladys Berg, and two grandchildren; also two sisters and one brother, namely, Mrs. Kristie Larson of Sherman, Mrs. Ingeborg Kirkebo of Tacoma, Wash, and Ole Berge of Norway.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon, services being held at the house at 1 o'clock and at the Lutheran Church at 2. Rev. A.J. Bergsaker, assisted by Rev. B.J. Rothnem, having charge of the services. Mr. Berge requested that there be no flowers, desiring that the money be used for missions instead. Burial was in the Dell Rapids Cemetery.
