Charlotte Thompson was born June 12, 1919 on a farm five miles west and two miles south of Dell Rapids, South Dakota. Her parents were Alfred Vaglan Thompson and Ida Lorraine (Amundson) Thompson. She attended Hanson Country School and graduated from Lyons High School in 1937.

Charlotte married Vernon C. Johnson August 28, 1937 at Willow Creek Lutheran Church, rural Dell Rapids. The couple lived near Lyons, Colton, and Dell Rapids before moving into Colton in 1964. They farmed and operated a trucking business. They were members of First Lutheran Church in Colton.

Vernon passed away May 16, 2005 in Madison, South Dakota. Charlotte passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at Southridge Health Care Center in Sioux Falls at the age of 86.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Jim Johnson and his wife Jackie, Crooks, South Dakota; Sharon Friessen, Fairfax, South Carolina; Dianne Payton, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; six grandchildren, Shellie, Steven, and Stacie Payton; Todd Friessen; Megan and Reid Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Lee, Amanda, and Ben Payton; numerous other relatives and friends. Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; parents; son, Bobby; son-in-laws, Bob Friessen and Lee Payton; sister, Violet Lathrop; and brothers, Arthur Phillip Thompson and Phillip Thompson.
