Charles A. Rommereim was born on a farm in Stewart, Ill., on Feb. 7, 1878, the second son of Andrew J. and Anna Rommereim. In 1887 they moved to Pleasant Township in Lincoln County. They stayed with a relative until their house could be built on the land they purchased (southeast quarter 12-96-50). Charles met Gena Urdahl and married her on Jan. 17, 1906, at Northwood, Iowa. They settled on a farm that Charles had purchased in Norway Township (northwest quarter 19-96-49). To this union two daughters were born: Alice M. (Nov. 29,1908) and Clarinda G. (Feb. 13, 1911). After the birth of the youngest daughter Gena became ill with tuberculosis and the family spent one winter in New Mexico to help her illness. Gena Urdahl was born on May 22, 1885, in Northwood, Iowa, to Andrew and Marie Urdahl; she attended school at Northwood. Gena Rommereim passed away on March 24,1917 at the age of 32 years. After her death Charles raised his two daughters with the help of Alma Kolos, his sister. In 1943, Charles rented his farm to Ralph Rommereim and purchased a home in Beresford. Alice (his oldest daughter) lived with him until her marriage in 1945. Alice and her husband Claus Runhovde then moved to the farm and rented it until Charles' death on July 25, 1961. Alice and Claus Runhovde purchased Charles' farm and continue to live there today. Charles served on many com¬mittees and boards in his life time. He held the office of chair¬man of the Romsdal Lutheran Church for many years of which he was a lifetime member. He was a member of the Norway Township board, the Beresford Co-op board, and Farmers Elevator Co. board. Charles and Gena are both buried at the Romsdal Cemetery.
