Kathleen (Katie) Schmidt, 80, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Her funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls, SD . A public visitation will be from 5:00 PM- 7:00 PM, Monday, August 14, 2023, also at the funeral home.

Kathleen Ann Schmidt was born May 3, 1943 to Roy Jr. and Marie (Zimmerman) Kinney in Inglewood, California. She married Richard (Dick) Schmidt on January 21, 1961. The couple made their home in Hartford, SD where they raised their four children. They moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1990.

Katie’s most important roles in life were as a wife, mom, and grandma. She demonstrated true love and commitment to her husband Dick of over 62 years. Katie’s sense of humor brought smiles to everyone she met. She was about living each day to have fun and make memories to last a lifetime. If you mentioned Las Vegas, slot machines, chocolate and Elvis, you got her attention! Throughout her entire life, she felt sincere gratitude for each and every one of you that shared time with her and took care of her. She ALWAYS put others before herself; that is what made her the happiest. Her friends and family would no doubt describe her unconditional love, second to none.

Grateful for sharing her life are her loving husband Dick Schmidt; children: Tom (Sherry) Schmidt of Sioux Falls, SD; Terrie (Jack) Madison of Lake Thompson, SD; Tammy (Mark) Severson of Sioux Falls, SD; and Tracey (Allen) Boll of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Cassie Schmidt, Josh Schmidt, Alisha Schmidt, Sarah (Trent) Wilde, Jeff Madison, Jennifer (Nick) Wagner, Ashley (Shane) Jensen, Jessica Boll (Tommy Baker), Melissa (Branden) Glaser; step grandchildren: Christina (Devon) O’Farrell, Tyler Larson (Lindsey Kuehl), Bryant (Chandra) Larson, Matthew (Jenny) Severson, Melissa (Kyle) Evenson; many great grandchildren; sister in law Ruth Kinney; special cousin, Jeanne Roers; and many other family and friends.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard (Dick) Kinney; granddaughter, Amanda Boll; great grandson, Linden Jensen; and special friend, Cherlyn Kelly.
