Silas Bidne, Local Businessman Dies
Silas Bidne, a second generation businessman in Flandreau died Monday night[July 17, 1972]in the Flandreau hospital, the victim of cancer. Mr. Bidne operated the Bidne Shoe Store here since 1939, an operation that was started by his father, Knute Bidne, back in 1896.
Mr. Bidne was born in Flandreau on March 21, 1907, and attended the Flandreau public schools, graduating in 1925. He attended SDSU for one year and four years at the Minneapolis Art School.
He returned to Flandreau where he operated the Bidne Shoe Store until his death. He was united in marriage to Betty Beach on June 9, 1949, and she died in 1969. They had no children. He was a member of the Flandreau Civic and Commerce Association for many years.
He is survived by one sister, Gertrude Bidne, of Flandreau; three brothers, Bernell of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Selmer of Flandreau and Leonard of Lexington, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister and two brothers. Funeral services will be held Thursday at the United Methodist Church. Interment will be at the Flandreau Cemetery.
