Funeral Services Held at Spafford for Hazel Bidne

Funeral services were held Saturday at Spafford Auditorium for Hazel Bidne, 61, sixth grade teacher at the Flandreau Grade School for the past seven years.

Miss Bidne died in her sleep early Thursday morning [November 18, 1965], apparently of heart failure. The 2 p.m. Saturday services were conducted by the Rev. Thomas Russell, with interment at the Flandreau Cemetery [November 21, 1965].

She was born June 1, 1904, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Knute Bidne, attended Flandreau Public Schools and completed two years of college at the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. After teaching school at Flandreau, Sioux Falls and Canton, she moved to Birmingham, Alabama to continue teaching. She later worked in Minneapolis before returning to Colman and then Flandreau to teach.

She was past president of the Flandreau Education Association, a member of the South Dakota Education Association, the National Education, the Royal Neighbors and Delta Kappa Gamma sorority.

She is survived by a sister, Gertrude Bidne of Flandreau, and four brothers, Bernell of Albert Lea, Minn., Silas and Selmer of Flandreau and Leonard of Lexington, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Pallbearers were Eldon Samp, Sylvan Vigness, Edward Ortman, Charles Prochaska, David Acheson and Alex Hilsendeger.
