Long-Time Business Leader Dies
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 21 at 11 a.m. at the Skroch Funeral Chapel for Gert Bidne, 89, who died Sunday, July 17 [1988] at Riverview Manor Nursing Home where she had been a resident since June, 1987. Rev. Eric Grinager will officiate at the services.
Gert Bidne was born on November 19, 1898 at Flandreau to Knute and Susanna Ringham Bidne. She received her education in Flandreau Public Schools, graduating from Flandreau High School in 1916. On July 22, 1916 she married Robert B. Pollock. To that union one daughter Wilomene Gladys was born in Flandreau in 1917. The couple divorced after "Billie" tragically died in 1929 at age 12. Gert worked at various dress shops in Hatfield, Montevideo, Faribault and Worthington, MN.
She returned to Flandreau in about 1941 where she owned and operated a Ladies' Dress Shop until September of 1986 when she retired. She continued to make her home in Flandreau and became a resident of Riverview Manor in June, 1987. She was a member of the Flandreau Civic and Commerce, South Dakota Retailers Association, and Royal Neighbors of America.
She is survived by three nephews, four nieces, a special friend, Harley Larson, Flandreau, and one brother, Leonard Bidne, Port Huron, Michigan. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Wilomene [Billie] in 1929, her parents, five brothers and one sister.
