Chan Duncan was born November 30, 1901 on a farm northwest of Egan to Charles and Grace Fox Duncan. He received his education at Egan Public School and then started farming. In 1926 and 1927, he worked on a surveying crew in Florida then returned to Egan where he farmed and worked as a salesman. He was married June 25, 1930 at Wakonda, SD to Violet L. Montgomery. She died in May of 1987. He retired in 1965 and continued to live in Egan until 1978 when he moved to Flandreau where he has continued to make his home. They wintered in Florida for many years. He was a member of the Egan School Board for 13 years and served as president for 9 years. He was a member of the Egan United Methodist Church, served as church chairman and was also president of the Hillside Cemetery Association.

Survivors
Chan is survived by 2 sisters; June Klingler, Fortuna, CA; Agnes, Mrs. Clarence O'Neil, Hemet, CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Violet, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
