Marie "Terrie" Miller

Marie “Terrie” Miller, 94, of Sioux Falls, passed away on Friday, February 17, at Dow Rummel Village.

Marie Theresa “Terrie” DeBates, daughter of Henry and Lena (Gaertner), was born on February 19. 1928 in Garretson, South Dakota. She attended school in Garretson until moving to Sioux Falls during her junior year and graduated from Washington High School in 1945.

Terrie was united in marriage to Herbert Miller Jr. on June 4, 1949, in Luverne, Minnesota. The couple lived briefly in Sioux City, Iowa, until building their home in Sioux Falls and made it their permanent home with their children Becky and Steve.

She worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator and in other positions for 36 and a half years until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of The Pioneers, a volunteer organization for Telephone Company retirees.

After retirement, she worked at Bath Etc. in the Park Ridge Shopping Center, where she enjoyed organizing greeting cards and socializing with the customers.

She loved flowers, especially pink roses, and looked forward to spring when she could plant her flower garden. She also had many collections, including porcelain teapots and angel figurines.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter Becky (Gerald) Ostgaard, Sioux Falls, and two grandsons, Chris Ostgaard, Pinon, AZ, and Ryan Ostgaard, Sioux Falls, SD.

Terrie was preceded in death by her husband Herb, her son Steve, her parents, her three brothers, Francis, Donald, and John Jacob, and her infant grandson Cory Wayne Ostgaard.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 am on Friday, February 24, at Miller Funeral Home at 13th & Main Ave., with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
