James Clifford Miller was born on February 20, 1953 in Flandreau, SD to Clifford and Phyllis (Peters) Miller. Jim was raised on a farm near Flandreau and received his education at Flandreau Public Schools. While in high school, Jim was active in FFA and began working at the Sioux Falls Petroleum in Flandreau. While working at the station in the summer following his high school graduation, Jim met Debra Morrison who was also working at the gas station selling fireworks. The couple began dating while Jim attended technical college in Pipestone, MN, and Debra in Watertown, SD. The couple were united in marriage on August 26, 1972 at the Methodist Church in Egan, SD. Jim and Debra made their home in Sioux Falls, SD and were blessed with two children, Jason and Deanna.

Jim had a passion for the car industry and began working Jay-Shon Chevrolet in their shipping and receiving department. He then worked at Vern Eide, Kindler Pontiac-Cadillac and Pam Oil before coming back to Vern Eide working as their service advisor. In 2009, Jim switched career paths and began working as a corrections officer at the South Dakota State Penitentiary until his retirement in 2019. Upon his retirement, Jim made his home in Yankton, SD.

Jim’s passion for vintage cars was evident to anyone who knew him. He owned several over the years including a 1931 Model A Victoria, 1966 Ford Mustang, and his favorite a 1955 Ford F100, just to name a few. He loved attending the Back to the 50’s Car show in Minneapolis as well as attending numerous other car shows around the area. He also had a passion for riding his motorcycles; especially Honda Gold Wings. Above all, Jim loved spending time with his family from coaching baseball and soccer teams, being a scout leader, taking his family snowmobiling and countless camping trips to Lewis and Clark Lake in Yankton. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Debra Miller, Sioux Falls, SD; son, Jason Miller, Yankton, SD; daughter, Deanna Bakker and her husband, Ron of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Jayden Meyerink, Eian Miller, Courtney Bakker and Caitlin Bakker; three siblings, Corrine Ehlers and her husband, Roger, Flandreau, SD, Larry Miller and his wife, Shirley, Oklahoma City, OK and Carolyn Story, Dell Rapids, SD; Jim’s loving Dachshund, Miley Jo; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
