August 31, 1925 - March 22, 2009

Herbert “Chuck” Miller, 83, of Sioux Falls passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Herbert Miller Jr., son of Herbert Sr. and Clara (Baumgart) Miller, was born on August 31, 1925, in Monroe, NE and graduated from Humphrey High School. Herb entered the Army in 1944, serving in the European theater, and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. After being honorably discharged Herb worked for Western Electric in Nebraska and then transferred to Sioux Falls where he met his wife.

Herb was united in marriage with Marie “Terrie” DeBates on June 4, 1949, in Luverne, MN. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls where Herb worked as a postal clerk until his retirement in 1980.

Retirement for Herb was spending time at his acreage where he enjoyed farming and restoring tractors.

Herb was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Terrie; a son Steven Miller, Sioux Falls; daughter Becky (Gerald) Ostgaard, Sioux Falls; a brother Donald Miller, Norfolk, NE; sisters Jean (Herman) Craighead, Garland, TX, Joan McCorkle, Genoa, NE, Joyce Mueller, Des Moines, IA; sister-in-law Dorothy Miller, Walla Walla, WA; two grandsons, Chris Ostgaard, Pinon, AZ, and Ryan Ostgaard, Sioux Falls.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roland and Duane; and grandson Cory Ostgaard.

Visitation will begin at 3 pm on Wednesday March 25, 2009, with the family present from 6 to 7 pm at Miller Funeral Home, 13th & Main. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at the Miller Funeral Home Chapel, 13th & Main. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
