Funeral services were held Friday, January 9, at the Davis Chapel, for the late Michael Doyle, 79, whose body was shipped here from Bovey, Minnesota, where he passed away at his home on Monday, January 5, 1948. Burial was made in the Catholic Cemetery, Flandreau, SD.
Michael Doyle was born in Wisconsin in 1869 to Michael and Mary Doyle. In this family were born 3 brothers, Frank, Tom, and Peter, and three sisters, Nellie, Mary, and Sarah, all of whom preceded him in death.
He came to Moody County with parents when he was 7 years of age and settled on their homestead 14 miles northwest of Flandreau. Here he grew to manhood, and it was here that he met Johanna Dempsey, to whom he was married on December 22, 1890, in the Catholic Church in Flandreau.
Michael and Johanna Doyle lived on their farm until the spring of 1911, when they moved to Volga, SD, for four years. Later, they moved to northern MN where he was police foreman in the iron mines. It was here that he spent the remainder of his life and was active until the time of his death.
He is survived by his widow, Johanna, by 11 children and a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
