DELL RAPIDS — Jay Walter Geraets, 37, Dell Rapids, died Thursday (Aug. 2, 2001).

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at St. Mary Catholic Church, Dell Rapids, with the Revs. Joe Forcelle and Chester Murtha as concelebrants. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Dell Rapids.

Pallbearers are Tom Kolbeck, Bob Hansen, Robert Michel, Terry Kriens, Mark Hauglid, Moe Lickteig and Jerome Bunkers.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Kahler Funeral Home, Dell Rapids.

He was born Dec. 20, 1963, in Dell Rapids to Clarence and Helen (Bohnenkamp) Geraets. He grew up on the family farm west of Dell Rapids and attended St. Mary School. In 1980, he began farming the family farm. He graduated from St. Mary High School in 1982. He married Julie Jones on April 27, 1984, in Dell Rapids. They have made their home on their farm since that time.

He was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was currently serving on the Dell Rapids Grain Elevator Board of Directors and was President of the Dell Rapids High School Booster Club. He had been nominated as Young Farmer of the Year in 1988.

He took pride in his children's sporting events, education and community activities. He volunteered his time to coach many teams.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Julie; his daughter, Nicole; his two sons, Jonathon and Thomas; his nine sisters: Jean Mines, Judy Geraets-Parcell, Janet Ordal, Jennifer Huwe, Joyce Selland, Joan Spangler, June Huewe, Julia Blue and Jackie Geraets-Rauh; his four brothers: John, Joseph, Jerome and Jeff; a sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
