Doris Irene Walker, 85, of the Southridge Care Center died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at her home.
Doris Baker was born May 9, 1914, in Sioux Falls. She grew up and attended schools in Sioux Falls, graduating from Washington High School in 1932. She worked at the John Morrell & Co. creamery, supervising the testing laboratory.
She married Eugene C. Walker on March 7, 1940, in Sioux Falls. While he was stationed in New York during World War II, she worked as an assistant to the personnel director at Macy’s Department Store. The couple returned to Sioux Falls at the end of the war. They moved to Sewall, Iowa, to farm. They returned to Sioux Falls in 1957. She worked as an assistant to the director of McKennan Hospital Pharmacy.
She was a member of East Side Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir.
Survivors include four sisters: Ruth Bovee of Silverton, Ore., Ruby Shotwell of Hendersonville, N.C., Helen Glende of Janesville, Wis., and Gladys Baker of Gentry, Ark; a sister-in-law, Maryanne (Walker) Ferguson of Corydon, Iowa; nine nieces; and four nephews.
Services begin at 2 pm Friday at East Side Presbyterian Church with burial in Hill of Rest Memorial Park.
Vitiation is 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with the family present 6 to 8.
