Gene Walker, 86, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Sioux Valley Hospital.

He was born Dec. 31, 1912, in Nebraska. He grew up and attended school in Dunbar, Neb. He attended Peru (Neb) State Teachers College for one year before moving to Sioux Falls. He worked of John Morrell & Co.

He married Doris Baker on March 7, 1940. He then served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He returned to work at Morrell as a hog buyer for a few years. The couple then moved to Sewal, Iowa, and he farmed with his father. In 1957, they moved back to Sioux Falls and he worked for Morrell until retiring in 1975.

He was a member of the American Legion.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one sister, Maryanne Fergusen of Corydon, Iowa; four sister-in-laws and several nieces and nephews.

Services begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at East Side Presbyterian Church, with burial in Hills of Rest Memorial Park.

Visitation will be one hour before the service ta the church.
