Karen Taylor, 74, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died Friday, April 16, 2021, at Avera Prince of Peace in Sioux Falls. A Celebration of her Life Service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Visitation with family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the South Dakota Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
Karen was born June 4, 1946 in Fairbanks, Alaska to Darrell and Irene (Loken) Kniffen. She attended school in Conde, South Dakota graduating in 1962. She was adopted by Eldon Ragels during her school years at Conde. In the fall of 1962, she attended Northern State University in Aberdeen. She was united in marriage with Aaron Taylor in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on June 19, 1971. The couple made their home first in Sioux Falls, then moved to North Mankato, Minnesota, and then back to Sioux Falls. The couple raised two sons, Scott and David, while they lived in Sioux Falls. During the period of time that she was in Sioux Falls she went back to college at the University of Sioux Falls, finishing her Bachelor of Arts in May of 1983 and Masters of Business Administration in 1996.
In 1986 she began her career in the Financial Aid Profession. She worked as a Financial Aid Advisor at the University of Sioux Falls. Huron University Sioux Falls Branch, Nettleton College in Sioux Falls, until its closing. She was Assistant Director of Financial Aid at the University of Minnesota Mankato, Minnesota. She worked in Financial Aid in South Dakota for 15 years followed by 10 years in Minnesota retiring in 2010. She belonged to the South Dakota and Minnesota Associations of Student Financial Aid Administrators. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and Red Hat Society. She enjoyed her sisters in Beta and friends in Red Hat Society, attending many monthly meetings and yearly conventions in the upper Midwest and Canada.
Having shared many memories with her was her husband, Aaron of Sioux Falls; two sons, Scott (Marcelle) Taylor of Brandon and David (Melody Jewell) Taylor of Sioux Falls; two grandchildren, Autumn and Mitchell of Brandon; her brothers, Kevin Ragels of Watertown, South Dakota, Keith Ragels of Watertown, South Dakota and Darrell Kniffen of Fairbanks, Alaska; along with the special family of Kniffens of Fairbanks, Alaska.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Larry Ragels; and one sister, Sharon Ragels Lasley.
