Howard John Jensen
October 10, 1922 - December 13, 2019
Howard John Jensen, age 97 died December 13, 2019 at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls.
Howard was born on February 10, 1922 in Chicago, IL to Arthur and Marie (Peterson) Jensen. Elementary and high school education were in Palatine, IL, where his family lived in a home constructed by his father from a Sears Roebuck kit. "The roof leaked just a little, and only when it rained!". He had two brothers, William Jensen, who passed away several years ago, and Robert Jensen, who died just a few days prior to Howard at age 100.
Howard entered the Army Air Corps in January 1941, and served as an airplane mechanic stateside, and on a B-24 bomber crew in Italy. Howard met Elizabeth (Bette) Woolf in 1942 while on a home visit. They were married on July 4, 1945, in Stoughton, WI, while he was on a 30 day leave, which followed his homecoming from overseas. He was discharged in September, 1945.
With a sampling of the world of education, Howard began his work for pay, mostly as a draftsman, culminating in 27 years at Raven Industries/Aerostar in Sioux Falls. He and Bette and their growing family had lived in Wisconsin, Michigan, Colorado and New Mexico before settling in Sioux Falls in 1963.
Howard and Bette moved to Dow Rummel Village in 2012. She preceded him in death in February of 2019 after 73 years of marriage. An infant son, Mark William died in infancy in 1950.
Howard is survived by his children: Sherri Ellis (Ken), Everett, WA; Jacquie Arnott (Neil), Fort Walton Beach, FL; Dave Jensen, Sioux Falls, SD; Gary Jensen, Hamilton, MT; and Paul Jensen (Jean) Winner, SD. His grandchildren are Jeremy, Christopher, Nathan, Kristen, Matthew, Anna and Wren. His great grandchildren are Judah, Harrison, Noah, Valentino, Cynch, and Nikoli.
A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls. A private family burial will be prior to the service.
