Eva was born January 17, 1900, in Union Township, Moody County, SD, to Nels and Josephine Bebo Hakinson, She attended rural Moody County schools. Her father passed away when she was 13 and her mother passed away 2 1/2 years later. Eva, her sisters, and brother were taken in by different families. Eva spent her teenage years with the Bachman family. She married Edwin Gulbranson September 20, 1920 and they had three children. Her husband passed away November 14, 1926. Eva married B.E. Scofield September 13, 1939, at Pipestone, MN, and acquired four step-children. B.E. passed away January 1, 1977. Eva spent her entire life in Moody and Brookings Counties. She worked as a cook on a construction crew, was later employed by Brookings Hospital, and then Riverview Manor Nursing Home, where she worked in the laundry department until becoming a resident there in 1987. Eva was a member of the United Methodist Church in Flandreau.
Eva is survived by 2 step-children; Alvin Scofield and his wife, Rita, Brainerd, MN; Berniece Emerson, Corson, SD; 1 daughter-in-law; Elvera Scofield, Flandreau, SD; 23 grandchildren including: Gary Hamen, Placerville, CA; Joyce Smith, Ketchikan, AK; Faythe Ann Crosby, Seattle, WA; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by both husbands, Edwin and B.E.; 2 infants; her daughter, LaVina; 1 step-daughter, Viola Haase; 1 step-son, Wilbur Scofield; 1 granddaughter, Joanne; 2 step-grandchildren: Ronald and Paulette; her parents, 1 brother, and her sisters.
