Steven Scofield, 58, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at his home in Flandreau under hospice care. Steven was born September 27, 1952 in Flandreau to Norvald and Betty (Henneger) Scofield. He was educated in Jones Country School and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1970. Steve married Renae Bauer September 30, 1972 at Flandreau and they farmed near Ward until 1985. They moved to Bowdle and then returned to Flandreau in 1986 and he worked as a farm hand. In 1993 they moved to Okaton where Steve worked as a ranch hand until 1998 when they moved to Rapid City where he continued to ranch. They returned to Flandreau in 2006 due to Steve's ill health. Steve was a member of the United Methodist Church in Flandreau and he enjoyed horseback riding, working with cattle, roping, and coyote and deer hunting.
Steve is survived by his wife, Renae; four children, Teresa (Chad) Mohr, Arlington, Jean (Shannon) Pulscher, Flandreau, Scott, Rapid City and Randy, Brandon; eight grandchildren, Erica, Jaycie, Colton, Kylee, Thane, Jessica, Alex and Steven; his mother, Betty, Flandreau; six siblings, Kathy (Jerry) Doyle, Flandreau, Nancy (Chris) Iott, Ward, Alice (Bob) Kurtz, Elkton, Roger Scofield, Judy (Randy) Wilts and Norvie (Kamie) Scofield, all of Flandreau. He was preceded in death by his father, Norvald, Sr.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday, May 14, 2011 at United Methodist Church with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation begins at 4:00 pm Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 7:00 pm prayer service.
