Hazel Moon Chamberlin

Hazel Chamberlin was born near Rock Rapids, IA on March 9, 1893. She started her education there and in 1905 moved with her parents to Moody County. She graduated from the Egan High School and the Flandreau High School. She taught in Moody County until her marriage to Thomas Chamberlin on March 18, 1915. They continued to farm until the death of her husband in October 1941. In 1944 she enrolled at Augustana College in Sioux Falls. After completing her education she moved to California where she taught school until 1958 when she retired and returned to Flandreau. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and aid, Busy Bee Club and Twentieth Century Club.
She is survived by two sons, Charles H., Sonora, CA, and C. Bruce of Flandreau; three daughters, Marian, Mrs. E. L. Chalberg, Santa Barbara, CA, Wilma, Mrs. K. I. Gross, Spokane, WA, H. Fern, Mrs. Robert Martinson, Seattle, WA; 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Frances (May 1962); one brother, three infant brothers and sisters.
