Julius Aasen buried Tuesday

Julius Aasen Sr., 80, a longtime resident of Minnehaha County, died Saturday, Sept. 4 in the Dell Rapids Community Hospital. The Rev. Martin Haase conducted funeral services Tuesday, Sept. 7 in the Dell Rapids Lutheran Church. Mrs. John Muller was at the organ, Ron Peterson was soloist. Pallbearers were Jennings, Gordon and Phillip Aasen, Gene Haagenson, Paul Hallem and Rene DeWitte. Burial took place in the Dell Rapids Cemetery.

Julius Aasen was born March 21, 1891 in Renner. He attended school there and was graduated from the State Agriculture School at Brookings. He married Sophie Almlie on May 13, 1916 in the West Nidaros Church.

The couple farmed in Day County near Roslyn until 1932 when they moved to Baltic. In 1938 they came to Dell Rapids to make their home and he was engaged in carpentry. Nine children were born to the couple with one son, Lloyd, preceding him in death in 1956. His widow, five daughters and three sons survive: Mrs. Fred Cormier, Waterbury, Conn.; Mrs. George Shotwell, Sioux Falls; Mrs. Virgil Lehman, Los Alamos, N.M.; Mrs. R.J. Aus, Bakersfield, Calif.; Mrs. M.G. Rockholm, Forissant, Mo.; Irwin, Sioux Falls; Floyd, Dell Rapids; J.J., El Cerrito, Calif.; 25 grandchildren, an sister Mrs. Bethine Haagenson and a brother Leonard, both of Sioux Falls.
