Clara A. Mortvedt

Clara Halvorson was born September 8, 1899, on a farm in Logan Township, the daughter of John and Bertha Halvorson. She attended rural schools near Dell Rapids.

She married Ernest R. Mortvedt on February 21, 1928, in Sioux Falls. They farmed south of Dell Rapids for 64 years, moving into Dell Rapids in 1992.

Mrs. Mortvedt was a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids and was active in Women of the ELCA and circles. She was one of eleven Merit Mothers in the 1967 South Dakota Mother of the year contest. In 1969 she and her husband were honored by the Dell rapids Public Schools for longtime support of the schools and their sports programs.

Mrs. Mortvedt, 93, died Thursday, March 11, 1993 at Terrace Manor Nursing Home in Dell Rapids.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest, of Dell Rapids; two sons, Dr. John Mortvedt and his wife, Marlene, of Fort Collins, CO, and Rev. Robert Mortvedt and his wife, Becky, of Funk, NE; five daughters, Lucille Ramstad and her husband, Rev. Philip, of Haslett, MI, Audrey Mortensen and her husband , Duane, of Springfield, MO, Marilyn Terwilliger of Eden Prairie, MN, Carole Petersen and her husband, Elmer of Onalaska, WI, and Jeanne Steinharter and her husband, Ken of Benbrook, TX; 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
