Borghild Weiland Mortvedt
Borghild Mortvedt, 77, of Dell Rapids died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1993, at her home in rural Dell Rapids.
Borghild Evenson was born May 5, 1916 at Garretson, the daughter of Paul and Margaret Evenson. She grew up and attended school near Garretson. She was married to Andrew Weiland April 18, 1934, in Hartford. They have farmed near Ellis and later moved to a farm near Dell Rapids. In 1967 they moved into Dell Rapids. Mr. Weiland died in November 1974.
She was married to Justin Mortvedt on April 15, 1979, at Dell Rapids. They made their home on his farm in rural Dell Rapids. Mr. Mortvedt died in January 1993.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary and Baltic Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Survivors include five sons: Jerry and his wife, Charlotte, James and his wife Nancy, David and his wife Sharon, John and his wife Mary, all of Dell Rapids, and Daniel and his wife Karen of Brainerd, Minn.; two daughters: Mary Lou Weiland of Sioux Falls and Mrs. Lynn (Linda) Schwebach of Greenville, S.C.; one brother: Leo Evenson of Garretson; one sister Mrs. Connie Weiland of Brookings; and 20 grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was held Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dell Rapids, with Father Hal Barber as the celebrant. There was a Christian wake service at 7:30 p.m. Oct 12 at the Kahler Funeral Home, Dell Rapids. Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Casketbearers were Andrew, Benjamin, Paul, Jason, Martina and Nathan Weiland. Honorary Casketbearers were Lowell Ronning, John Leuning, Don Berg, Cortland Johnson, Gib Kringen and Gene Brown.
