Mrs. G.A. Uline Claimed By Death

Almost Ninety Years Old; Was One of the Highly Esteemed Pioneers of the Community

On Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock death claimed Mrs. G.A. Uline, one of the Dell Rapids beloved pioneer women. In two weeks she would have reached the age of 90.

Wilhelmina Charlotte Friborg was born March 25, 1852 at Friborg Manor in the historic parish of Roxlosa, Vastergotland in south central Sweden, a daughter of Marghereta Jonsson and Larz Friborg. She was educated in Sweden and in Copenhagen, Denmark, and after her arrival in America continued her studies in New York City.

On November 15, 1877, she was married to Gustaf Anders Uline whose death occurred December 19, 1914. Due to her husband's prominence in the early history of the state as well in the community Mrs. Uline was actively associated with the growth and development of the new country. The Uline home was a center of hospitality for guests from far and near and many who faced the hardships of the pioneer days went there for assistance and advice.

Mrs. Uline was endowed with an alert mind and remarkable memory and until the end of the life her interest in people and world events never failed. Though an invalid for a long time and confined to her bed for the past four years she maintained patience, cheerfulness and consideration for others and these things will abide in the memory of her family and her friends.

She was a charter member of the Woman's Club and one of its first presidents. She was a member of the Baptist Church for more than half a century and taught in the primary department of the Sunday school for 25 years.

A son, Alfred, died in childhood. Surviving the deceased are five daughters: Alma C. at home; Mary D., and secretary of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Mission (Congregational), Boston, Mass.; Mrs. Elma G. Haugen, Sioux Falls; Mrs. Charles Bennett, Leland Miss.; Mrs. Arthur F. Grove, Dell Rapids. Her six grandchildren are Grant, Mary Jean and Roger Haugen; Thomas and Alan Grove, and Diana Bennett.

Services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Uline home with Rev. O.A. Enersen officiating. Herman,s Funeral home is in charge of arrangements and interment will be made in the local cemetery. Pallbearers will be three grandsons, Thomas Grove, Grant and Roger Haugen: also Max Grove, William Voy, jr., and Howard Merry.
