Death of G.A. Uline

Well Known Pioneer Citizen and Business Man Died Saturday, Dec. 19. Funeral Held Tuesday Afternoon

Gust A. Uline passed away at his home in this city last Saturday, Dec. 19th, at 1:30 pm, after a brief illness, aged 65, years, 2 months and 7 days.

He was born in the province of Wermland, Sweden, Oct. 12th 1849, where he grew to manhood, coming to the United States in 1867.

He was married November 15th, 1877, in Sioux City, his wife's maiden name being Charlotte Wilhelmina Friborg. She came from New York, and he met her in Sioux City, where the ceremony was performed. This union was blessed with the birth of six children, the first and only son dying in 1880 when about a year and a half old. Five daughters, Alma, Mary, Grace, Minnie and Augusta, and the devoted wife are left, all but Mary being with him when he passed way. Alma and Minnie were at home: Grace is teaching at Sand Point, Idaho and Agusta is finishing her college work this year at Missoula, Montana. She and Grace reached home Saturday about noon, so that they were with their father about an hour and a half before he died. The other daughter, Mary, is a missionary in Turkey, where she has been for four or five years, since Turkey became involved in the European war it has been very difficult to hear from her, and doubtless the worry of her, aggravated the malady which was attaching her father.

Besides his immediate family, Mr. Uline left five brothers and four sisters, one brother and one sister residing in New York City, one sister in Oregon, and tow in Sweden, one brother in Wisconsin, one in Michigan, one in California and one in Seattle Washington.

The funeral was held at the home, Tuesday at 1:30 o'clock, and was a very short and simple service, consonant with his wish, Rev. Dr. S.P. Shaw, of Sioux Falls, the state secretary of Baptist churches, in the absence of Rev. Cook, the Baptist pastor, conducted the service, making a short address.
