James T. Ulrikson was born near Canton, S.D., to Ted and Anna Ulrikson Dec 12, 1925. They were soon joined by sisters, Doris and Donna. Jim was confirmed in the Canton Lutheran Church and graduated from Canton High School. In 1945 he met his wife of 64 years-to-be, Alice Nachtigal from Freeman, S.D. They were married on Christmas Day 1946 and the family grew to three boys and one girl before the family moved to Los Angeles in 1954. There he was an electrical contractor for 12 years. During this time Jim felt called to the ministry, so while putting his four children through college he put himself through California Lutheran University and continued on to Luther Seminary for his masters of divinity. February 1971 Jim became an ordained Lutheran minister (ALC). For 40 years he served churches in North Dakota, Arizona, New Mexico, California and Washington, including interim pastor at Bethany and Trinity Lutheran churches in Longview. He was called by Lutheran bishops to work with churches in need. Retiring in Fountain Hills he devoted most of his time to the leadership of several weekly Bible studies. Jim helped to charter Fountain Hills Rotary Club and volunteered his time for Habitat for Humanity, mentoring, La Paz de Cristo, Salvation Army, high school scholarships and many other projects. But he will be most remembered for his book and weekly inspiration "Gracious God". The club voted him Rotarian of the Century in 2005. Pastor Jim passed away in Fountain Hills, Ariz., Aug. 10, 2011, while in Hospice care for cancer. He leaves his wife, Alice; four children, Marilyn (David) Fenn of Chehalis, Wash., Jimmy (Debbie) Ulrikson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Ken (Dawn) Ulrikson of Fountain Hills and Marvin Ulrikson (Victoria Heidelman) of Trabuco Hills, Calif.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Donna (Gene) Sundt; and many nieces and nephews. A sister, Doris and her husband Bob; and a grandson, Carl Fenn preceded him in death.
