Death Summons Peder T. Pederson
Peder T. Pederson was born October 29m 1875 I Clayton County, Iowa, the son of Tollef and Ingeborg Pederson. Two years later, in 1877, they moved to Moody County, S.D. where he grew to manhood. The family united with Bethany Lutheran Church in this community.
January 30, 1900 he was united in marriage to Annie Rislov also living in this community. They lived on a farm until 1916 when the family moved to Dell Rapids. Mr. Pederson was employed at the Dieson Store for several years after which he went into partnership with B.J. Winjum and they continued their business until the end of 1949 when illness caused them to sell out.
His health has not been very good for about three years, yet he has been up and around most of the time. Last Tuesday, August 5th he was stricken with an illness from which he did not regain consciousness, and he passed away Friday afternoon, August 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 9 day.
Mr. Pederson was very active in the local Lutheran Church, serving as an officer, a Deacon for 12 years; also active in the Sunday School, a member of the adult class, he was also a faithful member of the Brotherhood.
Three years ago Mr. and Mrs. Pederson celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his widow, three sons, Helmer of Vestal, New York; Roy of Lewiston, Idaho and Vernyl of St. Paul, Minn. Three daughters, Mrs. Harvey Richardson, Chester, S.D.; Mrs. Elmer Benson of Thief River Falls, Minn.; and Mrs. Irving Ellefson, Jasper, Minn.; also 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, 1 brother and 3 sister. One daughter, Gladys, preceded him in death. Many more distant relatives and a host of friends will mourn his departure. Blessed be his memory.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 from the Lutheran Church with burial in the Dell Rapids Cemetery, the Rev. Ole M. Odland, pastor officiating. Honorary pallbearers were E. Elverson, Alfred Paulson, N.P. Nelson, B.J. Winjum, Martin Lerdal and Hess Zylstra. Active pallbearers were Ellsworth Brown, Hauko Janssen, Ben Dieson, Warren Wicks, Felix Lyng and Lester Thoreson.
