Alfred R. Stephens

Alfred R. Sephens was born in Greene County, Wis. July 16, 1844, and grew to manhoon there near Juda. He departed this life at the same home of his daughter in Colman May 3, 1928.

He was married to Sarah Long December 16, 1867, and to them were born three children, Alice, who died in 1903, Mrs. H.J. Phillips, of Colman and Ray of Glendham, Cal., Mrs. Stephens passed away March 23, 1922.

The deceased came with his wife to Moody County in 1879 and has been a resident here practically all the time since then.

He settled on a homestead two miles south of the Lone Tree and lived there some twenty years, finally moving to Egan where he made his home until Mrs. Stephens passed away, and since that time has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. H.J. Phillips in Colman. His passing narrows closer the last of the pioneers who helped in the early days to lay the foundation for the fine farms and country homes of today. Having finished his life’s work he has gone to meet his loved ones gone before.

Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. F.E. Morrell, interment in the Egan Cemetery directed by J.S. French funeral director.
