Ernest Valland
Colton – Ernest Valland, 79, Colton, died Monday in Dell Rapids Hospital.
Mr. Valland was born Nov. 8, 1906, near Colton, where he grew up and attended school. He farmed northwest of Colton until 1941, when he moved into Colton.
He married Eloise Ducken, Oct 12, 1941, in Colton.
He formed a partnership with Ernest Eggen and operated the Colton implement Co., a John Deere dealership, until his death.
Mr. Valland served on the Colton City Council for 17 years and was city treasurer for three years. He was a member of the Implement Dealers Association, Colton Commercial Club, First Lutheran Church and First Lutheran bowling team.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael, Sioux Falls; three grandchildren; a brother, Orville, Colton, and a sister, Irene Rentscher, Dell Rapids.
Services will begin at 2 pm. Thursday in First Lutheran Church, Colton. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Colton.
Visiting will begin at 1 p.m. today in Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.
