Clara B. Hayes
April 7, 1938 - September 11, 2020
Clara B. Hayes, 82, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away Friday, September 11, 2020 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Her funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, September 21 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls, with burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation begins at 3:00 PM Sunday, September 20 at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
Clara B. Oltmans, daughter of George and Florence (Heeren) Oltmans, was born April 7, 1938 in Ellsworth, MN.
As a child she grew up there with her family. Clara graduated from Worthington High School. She was one of the number one singers in high school and her church.
Clara then graduated from Stewart’s School of Hairstyling in Sioux Falls, SD. Following graduation, she was given a job as an instructor at the school, the first student to do so.
Clara was united in marriage with James A. “Dean” Hayes on August 13, 1963 in Worthington, MN. Clara owned a hairstyling shop in Brandon, SD for several years. She also worked with teen girls on probation for a number of years.
Clara was a member of First Christian Church and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was also a member of a bowling league for 15 years and attended many Bowling Nationals.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Dean; two sons, Jeff Hayes, Escondido, CA, Laine “Lanny” Hayes and his wife, Kelley, Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Dustin Hayes, Ashlee Hayes, Hunter Hayes, A.J. Suess; and many other relatives and friends.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Eugene, Kevin and George Jr.
