Grace Evelyn Hough
May 31, 1940 - December 11, 2023

Grace E. Hough, age 83 of Brandon, SD passed away peacefully on Monday, December 11, 2023. Her Memorial Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 6, 2024 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls with the family present for visitation an hour prior to the service.

Grace Evelyn Haupt was born the fifth of six children to Ernest and Katherine (Jenner) Haupt on May 31, 1940 in Bowdle, South Dakota. She attended school in Bowdle until fourth grade, moving then to Aberdeen. She was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church at 12 years of age. She graduated from Aberdeen Central in 1958.

Following graduation Grace moved to Sioux Falls. She lived with her sister Elaine while attending Sioux Falls College. That June, Grace tagged along as Elaine met up with friends at Wall Lake. Elaine advised her 18-year-old sister ahead of time not to have anything to do with the ten-years-older Doug Hough. But you can’t stop love, and Grace and Doug were married in December that same year.

The couple lived in Sioux Falls and raised their five children, Troy, Lisa, Lauri, Lynn, and Jason. After a brief move to Illinois in the mid-1970s, they returned to South Dakota and built a home in the country outside Brandon. They surrounded themselves with open spaces, a beautiful creek, many trees, and endless opportunities to observe the nature they both loved. Despite health challenges later in life, both Grace and Doug were able to spend their sunset years together on the farm. Married 63 years, Doug died in 2022. The family is grateful for compassionate caregivers from Good Samaritan Services, Visiting Angels and Right At Home.

Grace will long be remembered as a loyal friend, amazing hostess, dedicated mother and grandmother, and devoted wife. She knew she was saved by grace and lived with the assurance that she would one day worship at the feet of Jesus.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Troy (Cathy) Hough of Sherman, SD; Lisa (Mark) Litschewski of Chaska, MN; Lauri (Terry) Gullickson of Sioux Falls, SD; Lynn (Brian) Buysse of Ghent, MN, and Jason Hough of Brandon, SD; grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan (fiancé, Liesl), and Nolan (fiancé, Ava) Litschewski, Lily (Bryce) Bills, Joel (Abby), and Eli Gullickson, Alaine (Andy) Steffl and Leo (Tori) Buysse, Lisa (Daniel) Willems and Laura Lowe; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her best friend for over 75 years, Annette; and a host of many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Katherine (Jenner) Haupt; husband, Douglas Hough on March 31, 2022; and her siblings, Lois McDermed, Dorothy Burr, Maybelle Griess, Elaine Anderson, and Harris Haupt.
