Lawayne J. Leuning, 76, of Jasper, MN, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Dells Area Health Center. His funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Reformed Church, Dell Rapids. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 with the family will be present at 5:00 p.m. and a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Kahler Funeral Home.

LaWayne John Leuning was born on February 25, 1936, the son of John and Judith (Johnson) Leuning. He grew up on the family farm north of Dell Rapids. He attended country school and then Jasper High School. He graduated from Jasper High School in 1954. He attended SDSU. He enlisted with the U. S. Air Force and then returned home to farm. On September 8, 1962, he married Audrey Van Daalen in Egan,SD. The couple made their home on a farm north of Dell Rapids. LaWayne continued to be active in farming until his health wouldn't allow it.

He was a member of The Reformed Church, the Jasper American Legion Post and the Jasper Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, horses and horse back riding.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

LaWayne is survived by his wife of 50 years, Audrey of Jasper, MN; his son, Dennis of Dell Rapids; his daughters, Marcia Leuning of Brookings and Denise (Noel) Matson of Huron; his grandchildren, Christa of Brookings, Ashley, Tanner, and Shelby all of Huron; his brother, Lauren (Jackie) of Phoenix, AZ and his sister, Gwen (Gerald) Jaycox of Pipestone, MN.

His funeral service was November 8 at the Reformed Church, Dell Rapids with Pastor Frank Boerema officiating. Interment in the Logan Reformed Cemetery, rural Dell Rapids with military rites provided by the Jasper American Legion Post.
