September 21, 1929 - August 2, 2022

Ramona Buchholz, 92, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion, SD.

Memorial Service will be 11:00 am Saturday, August 6, at Miller Funeral Home-Southside Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Ave., Sioux Falls, SD with private family burial next to her husband, Nathan, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD.

Helen Ramona Erickson, daughter of Raymond and Ellen (Knudson) Erickson, was born September 21, 1929 in Salem, SD. She grew up there graduating from Salem High School in 1947. After attending Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD Ramona was hired as a teacher in Avon, SD. It was there she met and consequently married the love of her life, Nathan Buchholz, on June 8, 1951 in Salem, SD. They lived on a farm outside of Avon, SD and settled down to start their family. After a couple years they decided farm life wasn’t quite right for them and moved to Mitchell, SD. Ramona loved being a mom but also continued to use her teaching skills by helping start a local preschool.

The moving bug struck again in 1957 and Nate and Ramona decided to head to Sioux Falls, SD. It was there Ramona was able to continue her love of teaching in the Sioux Falls School District and eventually retire in 1990 after 30 years of service.

Ramona had a strong faith in God and loved serving her church in any way she could. Her favorite share was through the gift of music. Most Sundays she could be found playing the organ, singing in the choir, or participating in special music as a soloist or in small groups.

Ramona strove to make memories with her family. Scents of wonderful taste treats always greeted anyone walking into her kitchen during the holiday season. And whether it be at their cabin on Brandt Lake or their home in Sioux Falls, food and laughter could be found as well as a gentle woman ready to listen to each special story.

Ramona shared 70 years with Nathan and together they provided an example of how successful marriages must grow and develop. Their love and caring for each other produced a rich life filled with family, sweet memories, and a constant faith in God’s plan.

Grateful to have shared Ramona’s life with her are her children, Jeffery (Deb) Buchholz, and their children, Carrie (Josh) Livingston and Katie (Brian) Castle; Wendy (Jim) Hammrich and their children Heather (Mike) McLean, Emily (Bob) Van Weelden, and Lindsay (Matt) Edwards; and Bradley (Dawn) Buchholz and their children, Nate (Katie) Buchholz and Courtney Buchholz; her twelve great-grandchildren with one more on the way; and her one great-great grandchild.

Ramona is preceded in death by her husband, Nathan; her parents, Raymond and Ellen; and her sister, Marlys.
