James A. Larson, age 73 of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022. His Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Friday, February 18, 2022 at East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Jim was just enjoying his retirement of four and a half years from John Morrells as President local 304A John Morrell Union. Having been employed at John Morrells his entire working life for 50 years. Jim was a very proud strong Union member and steward. He spent his life working to better not only his life, but also the lives of everyone he could. Every road he traveled and every achievement he made, led to the betterment of all people. Some of these achievements he served as; President of local 304A Secretary Treasurer, local 304A President of Trades and Labor, First Vice President AFL-CIO, Director of Sioux Empire United Way, Commissioner of Sioux Falls Human Relations and Board Director/Chairman of Service First Federal Credit Union.

Jim was a self-taught guy, that pushed himself and placed top in many tournaments and championships in sports. One thing about Jim is, he wasn’t going to do anything unless he could be at his best. He was very competitive and loved the challenge. He also enjoyed car racing, like The Knoxville Nationals and watching Casey Kane and Chase Elliot on Nascar. With his lifelong hardworking ethics, strong dedication, it all stemmed from how Jim was raised and that pride was held within his own family. Jim loved spending time with his family including his fur baby grand doggers, NahLa, Enzo & Koda. We know that his true buddy was his late fur baby, Louie.

He especially enjoyed teaching, assisting and coaching his son, Brandon’s basketball team, from youth to high school. His passion for sports was bowling and golf and that showed in his coaching. Jim put a lot of his time teaching Brandon’s Golf team to the be the best they could be, leading them to many father/son tournaments and placing top in countless Championships. From working on home projects to making his family favorite Norwegian Lasagna, all the way to keeping a clean vehicle inside and out, thanks to his dad for reminding him the importance of taking care of his belongings. Considering how involved and dedicated Jim was to the community, he will live forever in the hearts of those who were apart of his life

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Pam Larson of Sioux Falls, SD; sons, Brad (Holly) Otten of Rapid City, SD, Brian (Denice) Otten of Sioux Falls, SD, and Brandon Larson (Dawn Anderson) of Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Laurie (Marv) McKnelly of Sioux Falls, SD; uncle, Gaylord Larson of Baltic, SD; aunts, Carol Marsh of Sioux Falls, SD and Mary Ann Peterson of Colton, SD; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lauren and Evelyne (Peterson) Larson.
