Mrs. Betsy Larson
Mrs. Betsy Larson who homesteaded with her husband on land seven miles northwest of Dell Rapids in May, 1876, died at her home her at 8:00 o'clock p.m., Monday, July 4.
Mrs. Larson was born on February 2, 1848, in Norway, coming to this country in the spring of 1873, settling first in Cresco, Iowa. Here she was married to John Larson the same spring.
Mr. Larson died two years after homesteading, leaving three small children, all alone in a new country, but she managed the farm, raised the children and continued to live on the farm until 1905 when she moved into the city of Dell Rapids where she resided until her death.
Surviving are the two sons, L.J. Larson and S.B. Larson of Dell Rapids; Mrs. A.P. Hatland, Devils Lake, N.D.; one grandson, J.P. Hatland; one great-granddaughter, Dorothy May Hatland, Minneapolis; and one granddaughter, Lillie Larson of Dell Rapids.
Funeral services will be held at the Lutheran Church in Dell Rapids at 10:0 a.m. Friday, July 8th, with the pastor, Rev. Ole. M. Odland, officiating.
