Sharon Black, 67 of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away after a courageous battle with chronic illness on Friday, November 9, 2018, at the Sanford Foundation Cottage with family at her side.

Sharon Ann Black, daughter of Wilfred and Lorraine (Berndt) Schempp, was born on August 31, 1951, in Yankton, SD. She graduated from Washington High School in 1969, in Sioux Falls, SD.

Sharon was united in marriage with Tom Newcomb on December 6, 1969, in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple lived in Sioux Falls and began to raise a family. Sharon began working with Mom and Dad’s Nursing Home, Pace Manufacturing, and then began a career with Citibank in collections.

Sharon was united in marriage with James Black on July 11, 1992. The couple remained in Sioux Falls where Sharon continued with Citibank for over 36 years until ill health prevented her from continuing.

Kind and selfless, Sharon enjoyed bowling, softball, and camping. She was a fan of many Sioux Falls sporting groups and attending their games. Her main passion was time spent with her grandchildren and attending any of their events.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Jim Black, Sioux Falls, SD; children Lisa (Louis) Winter, Sioux Falls, SD, Jessica (Steve) Fessler, Sioux Falls, SD, Doug (Kari) Black, Tea, SD, Sean (Sarah) Newcomb, Sioux Falls, SD, Brandi (Dennis) Van Lenning, Sioux Falls, SD, Connor (Kali) Black, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren Dylan, Garrett (Rachel), Kaitlyn (Cody), Caleb, Hannah, Emily, Brooke, Ashley, Madelyn, Ben, Tiegen, Ryleigh, Hayden, Broden; special friends Bruce and Sandi Heidemann, Sioux Falls, SD, Tom and Jackie Newcomb, Sioux Falls, SD, Dale and Cindy Drew, Sioux Falls, SD; and many other relatives and friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; three siblings, Donna, Bonnie, and Wayne Schempp, and a granddaughter Taylor Newcomb.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 pm on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at the Miller Southside Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Avenue. A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, November 12, 2018, at the Miller Southside Chapel with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
