Ardys Ione Murray
July 19, 1932 - February 9, 2021

Ardys Ione Murray, 88, a resident of Sioux Falls, passed away on Tuesday, Feb.9, 2021.

Ardys Ione Murray, was born to Jacob and Connie (Anderson) Christianson on July 19, 1932 on a farm south of Sinai, SD. Ardys attended grade school at the Pinegrove Country School several miles from their farm. She would ride to school in her father’s sleigh during heavy snows and cold weather. They lived near Ramona, SD where Ardys attended a country school. They made another move to a farm northeast of Howard, SD. Ardys attended high school at the Augustana Academy in Canton, SD for three years. She graduated her senior year from Howard High School.

After leaving the farm, Ardys worked as a cashier at the K&K Store in Howard, SD and the Council Oak Grocery Store in Madison, SD. It was at the Council Grocery Store that Ardys met Clarence Murray Jr. On July 25, 1953, Ardys married Clarence, also known as Junior, at the Belleview Lutheran Church near Howard, SD. The young couple made their home in Madison before moving briefly to Oregon. Ardys and Junior also lived in Chamberlain, SD and Sioux Falls, SD.

Ardys was a hard worker from an early age. As a teenager she would work for a neighbor to earn spending money. Ardys was a waitress and worked at the Joe Foss Airport Café, Skelly Truck Stop, and Empire Foods. She spent many hours volunteering at the Sioux Falls Jaycee Camp for Handicapped Children. Ardys was a dedicated mother to her children, and grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was her life. Family photos were displayed proudly throughout her home. Ardys was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. She enjoyed bible study and quilting and had the best time with the church ladies and especially enjoyed long visits with family and friends.

Ardys wrote about not having electricity or running water when she was a little girl and having very few toys. She had a little kitten that she dressed up as a doll to play with. Ardys loved her animals, especially the little dogs she had later in life. Ardys enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and making baked goods, especially breads. Those who knew her best would say that she was kind and wanted to help people in need. She will be missed by her family, relatives, and many friends.

Grateful for sharing her life are her children, David (Deb) Murray of Sioux Falls, SD, Steve (Kathy) Murray of Sioux Falls, SD, And Shirley (John) Albers of Lennox, SD; 9 grandchildren, Chad, Travis, Stacia, Brett, Greg, Chad, Charity, Desiree, Jennifer; 23 great grandchildren, Chase, Cayden, Jayden, Konnor, Jazlyn, Madalyn, Ericka, Colton, Landon, Austin, Blake, Harrison, Grayson, Gabby, Aaron, Taylor, Dylon, Aja, Laila, Addisen, Jaden, Juliana, Wesley, and one on the way; and her close friends Ramona, Mary Jo, and Doris.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Murray Jr.; Parents, Connie and Jacob Christianson; brothers, Junior and Kenneth Christianson; and sister, Darlene Lange.

Visitation will be 5:30pm-7:00pm on Friday, February 19, 2021 at Heritage Funeral Home, 4800 S. Minnesota Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD.
