Cynthia Adrian
March 29, 1955 - May 28, 2018
Cynthia “Cindy” Adrian (Schmidt) passed away May 28, 2018, after a long battle with kidney cancer. Cindy was born to Rueben and Eileen Schmidt on March 29, 1955, in Freeman, SD. Cindy grew up on a farm about three miles southwest of Freeman.
Cindy attended Freeman Lutheran Elementary School and Freeman High School. She graduated from Freeman High School in May of 1973. That fall she enrolled in the Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls. She graduated from Nettleton in December of 1974.
Cindy worked part time at Dayton’s Retail Store and at Citibank. She worked for Citi for 32 years and retired in August of 2013.
On May 24, 1975, Cindy Married Allen Adrian at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Freeman, SD. To this marriage Rachel and Lance were born.
During the next 43 years, the Adrian family enjoyed camping and travel. Cindy’s favorite camping was at the Yankton Lewis/Clark and the Lake Pickerel West Campgrounds. The family traveled to California, Yellowstone, Baniff, Glacier, Waterton, Oregon, Washington and Washington D.C. Allen and Cindy traveled to Australia, Jamaica, Aruba, Hawaii, Mexico, Florida, Wisconsin and Virginia. In March of 2017, the whole family vacationed in Orlando, Florida enjoying the Disney experience. What a great enjoyable family time.
She leaves to mourn her husband, Allen of 43 years, a daughter, Rachel and her husband, Jeremy Uttecht, granddaughter, Addison and grandson, Weston of Jewell, Iowa. A son, Lance of Rock Island, IL. Her mother, Eileen Schmidt of Mission, Texas and brother, Jim and his wife, Judi of Canton, SD. Sister-in-laws, Angie Duerksen, Betty (Ivan) Waltner, Sonja Adrian, June (Dan) Werner. Brother-in-laws, Jim (Vesta) Adrian, Larry (Dot) Adrian, Curt (Linda) Adrian. Aunt, Joyce Lehman. Many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and neighbors.
Cindy was preceded in death by her father, Rueben, infant sister, Kathryn and her grandparents.
A memorial service will be at Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church (4100 S. Bahnson Ave.) on June 20, 2018 at 2:00 PM. The family will be present from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church Academy and/or Gideons International.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Abiding Savior staff and the church family. The Sanford USD Medical Center, the Sanford Cancer Center and the Sanford Hospice staff for the care provided. Cindy’s cremated remains will be placed at the Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis, SD at a later date.
