William "Bill" R. Cox
June 13, 1925 ~ February 6, 2021 (age 95)

William R. Cox was born on June 13, 1925, in York, Nebraska, and died on February 6, 2021, at Mt. Healthy Christian Village, Cincinnati, Ohio, at the age of 95.

Bill was a World War II Navy Veteran and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was an industrial engineer at John Morrell & Co. for 34 years.

He graduated from Washington High School, Sioux Falls SD. Bill loved the out of doors. He started playing golf as a young boy and also enjoyed hunting ducks. He and his buddy played “hooky” to go duck hunting while in high school. Duck hunting metamorphosed into trap shooting in later life.

In high school he purchased a car with running boards from his earnings delivering papers. He gave his friends a ride home from football practice, but only his best friend could ride inside; the rest hung on from the running boards. His love for transportation led to the purchase of a Cessna single engine plane in later years.

William R. Cox was the husband of Miriam June (Day) Cox. He and Miriam were married on March 16, 1970 in Canton, South Dakota.

Bill worked for John Morrell & Co. at various locations from Sioux Falls, SD, Memphis, TN, Ottumwa, Iowa, St. Paul, MN, and Cincinnati, Ohio. The couple lived in Fairfield, Ohio from 1986 to the present where they enjoyed many concerts on the Green, attending plays, traveling and playing bridge.

Bill was a devoted, loving friend and partner to Miriam for over 50 years. He lived a rich and fulfilled life. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Ann Moe and her husband Tony Moe. Besides his wife, Miriam, he leaves a niece, Emily Ehlert, a nephew, Doug Moe and their children.

Due to covid19 the only way he and Miriam had to converse was over Face Time, which actually provided a very enjoyable way for them to connect.

Bill will be cremated and his remains buried in Sioux Falls, South Dakota this summer. His life will be celebrated with a zoom fire-side service on February 28.
